How much are dog walkers?

We're starting the process of adopting a doggeh. We're definitely going to need a dog walker and I was curious what the going rate was? Do they play with them or just strictly "walk"?

Thanks!

$12-15/half hour walk, a lot more for an hour unless walkers in your area are running low on clients and are offering better deals.

I think most just walk the dog, usually with other dogs. If you live near a dog run, they might take the pack there to play off-leash. I'm pretty sure all of ours spend a couple of minutes petting the dog at the start or end of the walk. Since most will have multiple dogs with them at all times (gotta make the $$) it's hard for them to leave the others outside and come in and play with one.

A few walkers that have vans pick up a bunch of dogs and then head to a fenced dog-run in another neighborhood, so for social dogs that's a good option and I hear these rates are similar to 1/2 walks.

There are some daycares in Brooklyn that have pick-up and drop-off services, but I think it's hard to get those slots.

Be aware that many dog runs have rules that preclude professional dog walkers taking over the runs with large groups of dogs. The usual regs are two dogs to one human. Those of us who have worked hard as volunteers to develope and maintain the runs did not go to all this trouble for others to make money from the run. Please do not patronize such dog walkers. there are plenty of true professionals to employ.

If you really are at Eastern Parkway and Far Rockaway (does such a place exist? I'm too lazy to check a map), I can't imagine there's many to choose from.

Ah. There are some good people who work around there, and OQ had it pretty much right about most of her points - except about playing - there's plenty of ways to do it outside of dog runs.

my dogwalker is awesome! $15 for 1/2 hour and $20 for the full hour. she does only one dog at a time (ummm, i guess if you have more than one dog she'll take them all at the same time). they go for a walk and then a little playing as well. moreover, great communication so i can be sure that we are both doing the same thing with the same commands. pm me if you'd like her info.

Brooklyn dog walkers rates can be anywhere from 12-2o depending on if its an individual or company and if they are doing private walks or group walks.
