I liked Direct TV....EXCEPT when it rains, snows, sleets, thunderstorms, wind storms, etc. It is on the roof, I am getting too old to climb up there AND service used to be free...but now you have to pay to have someone come out? There is a monthly fee to do this and out of principle...I will not.

Also, negotiate the days you have not had service off of your bill. Don't be shy about this. I have had a lot of money taken off of my bill through the years. Their customer service procedures are much better now.

You CAN't do this if you have the discount program w/Verizon where you consolodate your phone/DHL and Direct TV. When you do this neither Direct TV nor you can see your entire bill. Don't know if this is still the case as I haven't had any type of carrier in over a year. I stopped watching TV . I will watch a show here and there on the net.

I kept reading the posts about our other carriers in the area and it just isn't worth the hassle. My dream is to be able to choose the stations I want and forget the rest.

So, get credit for every day you don't have service and read your bills.

..which is why I have an old fashioned antenna on my roof as backup (plus the OTA HD channels are sharper). Not sure why I bother paying for DISH, there's only a handful of channels that I watch that aren't broadcast. If only I could get a decent quality Hulu streamed to my TV I'd quit DISH too.

Not that I'm bashing DISH. They are 10,000X better than Time Warner. DISH's 722 DVR runs circles around anything TW has. And don't get me started on TW's g-d awful on screen guide 'Mystro'.

Yeah, I love my DirecTV, but I'm in the middle of my first outage. It actually started last week, getting freeze framing and errors on HD channels. This is 3 weeks after I moved and had a reinstall; before the move I had 6 months of absolutely perfect service. Tech's theory is that it has to do with the Single Wire Multiswitch ("SWM") the new installers used (which allows them to run just one wire into the house instead of two+. Lesson to new subscribers - make sure they're running two cables inside. Tell them you don't want a "swim". Techs coming back Saturday to change my dish back to one that doesn't use the SWM.

Anywho, regular standard def channels are out now as well. I bought an antenna last weekend when the HD went out prior to the super bowl; thankfully I can watch OTA right now.

I have had Direct TV for 1.5 years, and this is the first outtage I have had. The installer told me it would happen in extreme weather.

    Satellite is just the worst.
Anyone who has it and is watching something suring inclement weather and ses those "pixilations" from top to bottom of the stream and then sees that message "trying to find satellite" know what I mean!

Good luck. At that point the damn thing can look where and when it wants nd you will have no service for many hours!
