DUMBO-Based Designer Calls It ‘Erroneous Ruling’

DUMBO — Controversial architect Robert M. Scarano Jr., based in DUMBO, has been banned by the Department of Buildings (DOB) from filing construction plans ever again in New York City.

Additionally, the department is recommending to the State Board of Education that the agency take steps to revoke Scarano’s New York State license.

First reported in the NY Times Thrusday, the announcement of the ban was made by DOB Commissioner Robert LiMandri and Department of Investigation (DOI) Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn, who said the decision came following a March 1 hearing and subsequent recommendation by administrative law Judge Joan R. Salzman.

Specifically, Salzman found that Scarano “knowingly made false and misleading statements to the Department of Buildings

    Unfortunately it only means that he can't file paperwork directly, he'll just have another architect in his practice deal with the DOB. Now if they banned the company....

    WIth all the crap that Scarano has done and publicity he is getting (albeit negative) do you think another architect in his firm would be willing to put their a** on the line to submit his paperwork/?

    Does Scarano have any buildings/properties in the works now?

    The buildings that have issues or are overbuilt...what is happening with them? Those families families bought one thing but received another...no?

    Five years too late, unfortunately. If he knowingly made false statements that resulted in overbuilding, the correct solution would be to require the developers to scale down those buildings to code, even if already built. Monstrosity on 4th Ave at Prospect, I'm looking at YOU...

    They work for Scarano. Doesn't that speak to their moral fiber?
