Prospect Park tree branches?

Anytime I walk through Prospect Park now I see chopped off tree branches laying around - waiting to be picked up by the city’s department.

If I wanted to bring a saw myself (not an electric one) and cut these branches into smaller pieces and take some, is there any law against that?

hm. i think there actually might be restrictions on moving fallen branches from prospect pk b.c of concerns about the asian longhorn beetle.

some where in this link is a course offered that gives you a permit to prune city trees on a volunteer basis. I don't know if you get a badge or a uniform but you can basically walk around the city streets with a folding saw and whip it out anytime.
    Look under "Attend a Workshop".

pretty sure it really has to be moved farther to be a problem:

Since the park currently has an overabundance of fallen trees, fallen branches, and other that had to be cut due to storm damage, I wonder if they might just look away at anyone *helping* by toting some out. They are seeking donations to help with the cleanup; this isn't just routine cleaning.

I might start by just asking a park worker or two about this or emailing the park alliance.

    Hi All,

    2 things.

Modsquad is referring to the "Citizen Pruner" class offered by TreesNY.

You should not remove or tamper with any down'ed trees in Prospect Park without contacting the Prospect Park Alliance.
