Farmers Market at JJ Byrne on Sundays

anyone know when this will start up again? My short search didn't turn up any answers. I bundled up and headed over this morning and was sad to see nothing.

In May - but a few of the vendors are in the cannery on Third Street between 4th & 3rd

Bummer that they must not have put out the sign yet when you were out. At the corner of 3rd and 5th Ave, there's usually a sign that points you down toward 3rd and 3rd Ave. It was there later this morning. There are a couple of produce vendors, the pickle guy, various canned/processed stuff (curry sauces, nut butters) and a bakery, amongst a couple of others. It doesn't seem like everyone is there each time. And they join the year-round group of jewelry designers, soap makers, etc. It's small, but I always find something. I complement my Saturday Fort Greene greenmarket shopping with this.

I love the Famer's Market at the cannery. Its usually pretty mellow so you have a bit more of a chance to actually speak with the vendors and learn more about the products they are selling. That being said - warm weather is on its way - so I'm looking forward to them returning to Washington Park.

I was just hoping it had moved back to the park since it's much closer to home than the cannery.

they didn't move back to 5th ave the 16th (probably because of 5th ave fest), but the farmers market was back this weekend.

it's now two blocks with a lot more vendors. One of the new ones is a fish stand that looks really good (didnt get any yesterday though), and I tried some little snack called a finnish rye from another that was awesome.

Yay! I go to the Saturday market but I can't usually get all I want in one haul and with the dog, who I only take in the market early, early. I can get what I forgot on Saturday, on Sunday.

I went this weekend. It's much larger. The fish and meat guy are great, and the produce stands are substantial. There are also some amazing specialty stands...try the Indian stand's simmering sauce. It is AMAZING.

both the produce stands were selling NJ strawberries for $6/quart. I didn't get any because I had seen NJ strawberries for $4 at union sq, and was wondering why they were so much more expensive here.

then yesterday I noticed that union sq vendors had them for $4 per PINT and I felt pretty dumb for not getting them. quarts were selling for $7 and up.

anyways, it's good to know that they vendors at our market are cheaper than at the larger (and theoretically more competitive) markets.

I don't mind spending more at the community market because I know the stuff is fresh and local (and I'm supporting local farms). The market has gotten really big...I was able to get my whole dinner there on Sunday!

I'm so happy to see this one growing and there were lots of folks out shopping at it.

Also, there was a bike taxi that said it was a (free I think) shuttle to the Markers Market on 3rd St and the Gowanus.

when do they pack up for the day usually?

I just passed by in my car and it was BIG! I didn't realize how big it had become./I'll have to go check it out next week

they were closing up at about 4:30 or 4:45 today but it was also starting to look pretty threatening out and there's a tornado warning.

The official hours are 11-5, but a lot of the vendors get their early. Love the new fish vendor, and Alex's Farm (the one near 3rd Street) has great strawberries/asparagus. He said everything will be good this year - last year because of weather most things weren't. And almost all his stuff is now pesticide free. The people who sell the nuts also sell coffee now - very good and only $8.00 a pound.
