home for aged and infirm scanners?

so...mrs. sweet tea's very fancy and large scanner -- with many fancy negative trays! -- has suffered a career-ending injury. all that's wrong is that one of its bulbs is on the fritz, but it's "not a user-replaceable part" and the company that made it has decided to stop selling to the consumer market. the cost to have them look at it was the same as the price of a new scanner (and not a cheapie, either).

this is/was a pretty high-end piece of equipment. it still scans, but now everything comes out stripey.

but throwing it out seems a shame.

anyone want it for tinkering purposes? anyone have any idea who might?

at the very least, how does one go about recycling such a thing?

I took my old old G4 and huge-ass monitor to a CPU recycling company in Gowanus. I can look up the company name if you want it.

LES Ecology Center has an e-waste recycling event this weekend in Bklyn Heights:

    They take scanners.

I thought Obama was going to establish government run death panels for them.

    ...another let down.
