how much to paint a cornice?

Hiya, has anyone had theirs painted recently? Ours needs painting badly and a contractor offered to do it. He asked us how much we were will to spend and don't even have an idea where to start in terms of price, anyone have suggestions? It's about 16' of cournice.

I had one done for $800 although it was in conjunction with some other work so I was told that was a discount off of the $1200 that the guy usually charges. I don't know if that was a good price or not.

The actual amount of painting isn't that much work but the fact that they had to use a scaffold adds to the cost. It's advisable to hire someone who has a rigging license for this type of work, it seems like every year we hear of someone dieing because of a lack of proper safety procedures when using these things.

We recently paid $1k or maybe $1200, negotiated down from $1,500, I think, for an 18' cornice....I don't think it's the number of feet on a typical building that matters so much as the need for scaffolding.....

Depends on the scope. What do you need to have done? Just a paint over, or rust removal/sealing combined with old paint removal?

Definitely check for the rigging license. You don't want to get stuck in the middle if somebody gets hurt at your building.

I don't know if anyone else saw that group of guys working on the house at the end of Park Place--near the soon-to-be-open Uncle Louie's. Clearly they needed taller ladders, if not scaffolding, but instead one of them was standing on the pediment over the door while he applied stucco. He had no harness, nothing, and was (IMO) way too trusting of that brownstone pediment's ability to hold his weight. Not good.
