are there any organized rides or groups that do weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly social bike rides? something like everyone meeting at prospect park, ride around a few times, then head to a bar or pool to hang out?

Indeed there are. Check this board for the next "midnight ride' which traditionally happens at 9pm. 2 rounds in the park followed by a number of rounds of your choice of drinks.

...For more coordinated rides you can also try meetup.com

last summer we had bike rides about once every two weeks, and beverages afterward.

...I hereby propose one this Wednesday, June 2rd

9 PM at the Arch at GAP.

    (see, it's easy to do)

...now lets see if we can some of the regular types to show up.

    ....hmmph, not much response.

Perhaps reminding people that beer is often consumed after the ride will help.

...perhaps reminding people that one can participate in the beer drinking part without actually going on the bike ride is also acceptable, but the success of this strategy is directly related to us knowing where we will go for beer in advance, so you will know where to meet us.

    Sepia?
    Woodwork?

Artezn, that cool artist shop on Atlantic is closing and having a final sale. They also have a website to shop at. You should all get one of these Drunk Biking Merit Badges! Wear it with pride!

I only saw that because you emailed me.
BTW, they stole our logo (thanks Mamacita, we will sue!).

Also, I think we should combine summer concerts with these rides.
    For example tonight:

Roy Ayers with DJ Jon Quick
    When: Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 7:00PM
    Where: Betsy Head Memorial Playground

Roy Ayers is considered one of the most sampled R&B artists of all time.

Though he has gained renown for his funky, soulful and jazzy compositions, Roy Ayers’ signature sound is the vibraphone, incorporated into virtually all elements of his music. With hits such as ‘Brother Green’ and ‘Everybody Loves the Sunshine’, Ayers set the stage for modern R&B artists over the course of his forty plus year career with his innovative use of synthesizers and modern production techniques. Widely considered to be one of the most sampled artists of all time, Ayers’ music continues to engage and inspire audiences of all ages.

Talent can be defined in a myriad of ways. It can be an innate gift or a learned proficiency, but occasionally it’s a potent mixture of both. This is definitely the case with DJ Jon Quick aka the Turntable Superhero. With active residencies at The Cabanas (Maritime Hotel) on Tuesdays, Moca on Wednesdays, Taj Afterwork on Thursdays and The Vault on Saturdays, he is one of NYC’s most notable DJs. His mixes have been featured on Sirius Satellite Radio, Kiss FM and Music Choice. He has also done underground remixes for the rapper K-OS and Bad Boy vocalist, Cheri Dennis. Named one of the 2009 NYC most influential tastemaker/DJ by Kinetix Marketing and for Hennessy Black, the newest brand from by Hennessy, DJ Jon Quick was just featured on NYC’s Fox-5 TV’s Good Day New York and is arguably one of the fastest rising DJ’s created a blueprint for others to follow.
