Did anyone else catch the William Kentridge showing in Prospect Park last night? If not, you missed out one seriously great program. His films are so dark/evil/whimsical/sad and everything else under the African sun, fused together into this fantastic explosion of animation. The musical score was a perfect companion to the films. I hope the city parks dept. has more shows like last night. I really enjoyed it.

It was an incredible double bill South African jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela followed by a film/live music project 9 Drawings for Projection featuring the wrok of internationally reknown artist William Kentridge. Actually the concert was not sponsored by the city parks department it is done by our own Celebrate Brooklyn.

There are some great shows coming up this weekend

Canadian super gropu New Pornographers with the Stars and the Sadies on Saturday night and Soullive and the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra on Friday night.

You can check out the schedule at www.celebratebrooklyn.org

About that Saturday lineup. Are any of those bands worth seeing? There's a good chance I'm going anyway, but to me, the phrase "Canadian Indie Rock" is just a little less frightening than "Open Mic Night" (sorry, Taralynne...)
