Ask Vietnamese Sandwich Shops to Go Greener

Hi all,

I am a BIG fan of Vietnamese sandwiches and happy to see the shops popping up in Park Slope, but extremely distressed by the excessive use of styrofoam and plastic wrap by all of them -- even if you are eating in. If you frequent these places (or if you simply care about the environment), PLEASE call and ask them to try to go a little greener.

totally agree - I stopped getting iced coffee any place they gave it to me in styrofoam -- ANY use of styrofoam is wrong! (Deli on 5th Ave near Union)

add Lotus (5th Ave at Carroll) to your list, although I think their coffee comes in #1 plastic cups, which are the least worst

i ask for extra styrofoam on mine!

I always try to remember to ask for a second styrofoam cup to use as insulation for my beverages, hot or cold. Iced coffee can really do a number on sensitive skin.

My job went green and stopped providing cups and plastic ware so now we use double the water and soap to wash our cups and utensiles. They even replaced the plastic stir sticks with wooden stirs...sorry tree but we are going green.

When I get hot coffee from most places, it comes in a paper cup. In order for it to not burn my hand they put a compressed cardboard cozy on it or double-up the cup. The top is always a crafty plastic feat of engineering. Do any of the local coffee houses allow you to bring your own insulated, reusable cup with a top?

It's my addiction to caffeine that is the true problem. Eventually the government will step in and regulate in order to protect me.
