I heard what sounded like a coconut cracked open and turned to saw a bike sans rider fly above a parked car. i then saw two bicyclists--one a delivery guy--on the ground with their heads cracked open and bleeding profusely. someone called 911 immediately but i couldn't take it and ran away...anyone know what came of them? i hesitate to blame whomever was riding in the opposite direction in the bike lane, but wow. i am wearing a helmet from now on...terrifying.

    Why would you hesitate?

I hope they are both ok, but it is in fact pretty dangerous to ride in the wrong direction for many reasons.

Sorry I misspoke. I didn't see the collision, so I don't know who if anyone was to blame, but it does kind of drive me crazy when bike riders barrel down a lane that is meant for going in the opposite direction. And I can't believe that restaurants don't require their delivery people to wear helmets.

Subject: Horrific bike crash on Bergen

I have been biking in Brooklyn for 15 years, but despite all of the new bike paths created over the last three years, it has actually become less safe to ride, largely because of the cyclists who insist on riding the wrong way in the one-way bike lanes, especially on Bergen and Dean (which are ONE block apart!). And sometimes it is two cyclists riding ABREAST going the wrong way, forcing the cyclist doing the right thing to veer into the car traffic. Another observation: Literally every single cyclist I've seen doing this has been in the 30 and under age range -- i.e., the entitled/"the world revolves around me" generation. I'm sorry, but this is true!
