Subject: Where's the best place to get prints framed?

We've walked by the place on Flatbush a few times--are they any good?

I had a bad experience at San Art Framing & Supply on 7th near Flatbush. I had something mounted in a metal frame but when I got it home I noticed it wasn't sitting square. When I returned it, the guy (I’m assuming he was the owner… he’s always there) told me that's what happens when you get a cheap metal frame. His whole attitude during the conversation was that it was my fault. I told him that if he knew about this issue then 1) why didn't he tell me about the possibility of this happening when I chose the frame, 2) why would he even sell a frame that would end up like that, and 3) didn't he notice it before I came to pick it up? He didn't have a good answer for any of those questions. I insisted several times that he needed to make it right. He finally told me that he'd fix it, but I had to pick from some left over scraps of another frame if I wanted it redone. I'll never go back.

Well, my boyfriend had a print framed at San Art Framing a few months ago and it came out looking really nice. It was just a simple black custom frame, some matting -- nothing complicated, but it was a gift and came out looking great, totally professional.

We've always had great experiences at SanArt Framing. They are very good at getting the right frame for the piece.

I would check out both SanArt Framing and Prints Charming. Prints Charming is on 310 4th Street (between 6th Ave & 5th), they're both excellent frame shops. The difference being (IMO) SanArt has finer silver frames and Prints is more organized with very fine wood frames. Like I say, they're both very good.

brooklyn frameworks on 5th ave b/w douglass and butler is pretty good. a little pricy perhaps but i've gone twice for something complicated and something simple and theyve done a great job both times.

Prints Charming. I've been going on-and-off for 13 years (when they were on 7th Ave). I only had a minor problem once and they fixed it without a peep. Darren has a great eye, is low-key but personable, and he is patient (I once spent way too much time picking out the right frame and Darren just kept trying to help me find what I wanted until I found the perfect frame). I can write lots more but feel comfortable with just letting you read the 5-star reviews on Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/prints-charming-brooklyn

i've used prints charming quite a bit. darren has a good eye and knows his stuff. i had tried san art a couple of times before and found them rude and unhelpful. neither is especially cheap but i've been very happy with darren's work.
