Is the train noise very bad at 4th Ave and 9th St?

We are thinking of moving to 9th between 4 and 5, nearer 4. Bedroom windows face the wall that covers the F train route and we were wondering how bad the subway noise gets. Anyone live in comparable setup/location? Thanks.

I'm sure you'lll probably hear it some there, but how bad it is kind subjective. I grew up in a freight train heavy town and in college lived with train tracks behind my room and the only problem was having to either pause tv or turn the volume up while trains passed. I kind of like the rumble of a train.

At least on 4th avenue side (at 14th Street) we don't really hear the train, but occasionally feel a little rumble when the train passes. Make sure you firmly affix things on your wall then, if only because they'll move a little.
Of course where we are the train is still underground, so it might be different near that stop, with the F and G trains...

I live on 9th street between 4th and 5th.. on the opposite side of the street that you are considering but have spent much time in neighbor's house on side you are talking about. It was not the sound of the train that could be heard but if the house was quiet and you paid attention you could feel the vibration. It was much more noticeable on the third story.
