The project was supposed to start last week. Now I hear it is AGAIN on hold until Nov. Anybody know the story?

I think the story is that the city has no money.

No it's more fun than that.

This project is being built with federal money that was earmarked pork by a certain retiring congressman ...to basically renovate his front lawn. (I won't state his name, but one could easily figure it out with a little work)

....albeit a lawn that others would get to walk on.

We have to track down this guy to get the latest. http://www.streetsblog.org/category/people/robert-witherwax/

He spends lots of time on such projects (and is a good guy).

I predict he will entertain us with stories of DOT disfunction.

    And now a retrospective!

In 2005, this thread celebrated the culmination of 5 years of work and announced that money had been obtained!

Note the optimistic start dates and completion dates :)

It is now getting toward the end of 2010.

Construction is supposed to take "18 months". Anyone have any bets on when construction will begin or how long it will take?

I hope they actually do restore the memorial plaques, they'll need metal detectors to find half of them. It's disgraceful how little the city cares.
