I see this all the time walking to the A/C on Fulton. I wonder how the image looked originally? and who added to it? and what the change means?

The original pasteboard image is really beautiful, but then it appears as if somebody besides the original artist sprayed over parts of it. I know it's an image by the artist, Swoon, and sometimes her work includes other techniques besides wallpapering but not in this form. So I think someone specifically altered it. But why? And what was the original image?

Does anyone remember the original?

When I moved here 14 months ago it had already been painted over. So I was happy to see pictures of the original image in the book Swoon released last year. She used that image all over, but this is the only one I've ever seen in NYC.

    Anyhow, it looked like this:

That has to be one of the nicer paste-ups I have seen around.

    Oh, wow! Thank-you. It's beautiful.

I did wonder if the paint covered up parts of the image that made it seem homoerotic. In the original, the persons look androgynous. We'll probably never know the intention of the painter (unless s/he decides to contribute to this post :D ).

But I loved seeing the original.
