Moving to Windsor Terrace - looking for a vet

Hi all ~

Not sure where to post this, but as a current North Sloper, I'm hoping someone who's familiar with South Slope/Windsor Terrace might have some suggestions.

As the subject header said, I'm moving to Windsor Terrace, and will be adopting two kittens to keep me (and each other) company. Does anyone know of a good vet in the area? Or is it worth coming back into the Slope? And I don't have a car, so subway friendly locations are a plus.

Also any guesses/suggestions for how much the initials shots and spaying/neutering should cost would be much appreciated.

In the Slope, but close(r) to Windsor is a place on PPW... I'd have to look up the name, but we got one of our kittens spayed there, and we were happy with the service, etc. They also take Muffins certificates, if your kittens happen to be rescued.

edit: Prospect Park Animal Clinic on PPW and 6th... not at close to WT as I'd thought, but not too bad.

Ditto the recommendation for Prospect Park Animal Clinic (PPW at 5th St), for all of the same reasons.

In WT proper, on Ft. Hamilton, there is a guy named Nagy Nasr who is very easy to get an appointment with (and you can park in front of his office pretty easily), but..........he definitely "overpushes" product in my opinion....de-wormers, and all kinds of meds that I didn't always feel were necessary (hence the switch to PPAC).

Please, please, please don't EVER take your animal (if it's a cat) to 5th Ave. Cat Clinic.

I'll third the PPW Animal Clinic recommendation. They did a great job with my cat until he croaked - not their fault though, he was 23.

oh, and good luck with the kittens! You'll be fine. Two is definitely better than one (said as I watch my two nutters cackle at the pigeons in front of my window).

PPAC takes Muffin certificates (as noted) for reduced-price spay/neutering. Too many unwanted animals in this world already.

(I personally hold 5th Ave. responsible for the death of my 8 year old cat. It's a long story, and it's just MY opinion, but keeping even one cat away from their care will make me feel like I'm honoring my beloved dead cat).

Oh, and my wife tells me that they have very reasonably priced micro-chipping, too... PPAC, that is...

I'd go to the guy on Ft Hamilton and McDonald. He knows his stuff. At least with cats. The people on 7th avenue by11st seem to be good with dogs.

I've been going to Dr. Keschner of Pet Haven for years, and he's great. He's at 290 McDonald ave, right off Fort Hamilton Parkway. The number is 718 435-6900.

I have been to both PPAC and Pet Haven, and I can would recommended Pet Haven.

I found PPAC to be very expensive, but each time I went in for a scheduled appointment I had to wait a long time, even for something simple as a drop-off. The vet I have been using this year at Pet Haven (I forgot her name), has been super nice.

There is no subway there, but it is on a bus line which goes into Windsor Terrace. Last time I went there, my livery cab took forever to come, so I just hopped on the bus instead.

Huh, I'm going to check out some of those recommendations too... but how about Animal Kind on 7th Ave around 11th St? I usually take my cat there. Very professional and everyone seems nice.

As far as places to avoid: I made the mistake of going to the Vet on Prospect Ave and Reeve... trust me. Bad place.

No subway to Pet Haven??? Just take the F train to Chruch Ave and it's only 1 block away! Depending on which exit you use, you might not even have to cross a street.

Open 7 days a week. That's a very good thing.

It didn’t seem like he knew what he was doing. My dog broke his leg and Dr. Nasr insisted CPR was the answer. Unfortunately after the CPR process was over, my dogs leg was still broken

Anyone know a good cat sitter that services Windsor Terrace (near Fort Hamilton Parkway)?

i know pet haven does board animals so you can ask about their price. if for any reason that doesn't work for you i'd suggest you stop at sean casey animal rescue and ask who they can recommend

I'll second the recommendation for Pet Haven (and Keschner and Caruso, the vets). I have a dog, but the cat folks who go there seem very happy. They're friendly, competent, and much more affordable than some of the park slope places.

Our two kittens go to PPAC and I like them.
