It won't be a huge street fair, but I am optimistic that it will be free from traveling vendors who exist merely to sell tube socks.

    Here's their spiel:

Join us as we celebrate Washington Avenue on Saturday August 21, 2010. The Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association will host a day of FOOD, FASHION and FUN. The event will focus on Washington Avenue businesses and the best that Prospect Heights has to offer. The festivities will take place on Washington Avenue between St. Marks Avenue and Prospect Place from 12pm to 6pm.

Local merchants will showcase their product or service in a way that is interactive, innovative, creative and fun. There will be a “Taste Off” food competition and Fashion-Hair exhibit. Neighborhood restaurants will compete to see who has the best appetizer on the Avenue and will be judged by all attending the event. Prizes will be awarded to merchants.

A unique display of Fashion and Hair Art will be fused into an exhibit that'll be one of a kind. There will be live band performances, an amazing DJ, FREE Salsa dance lessons, Children activities and much more.

If they're celebrating what Prospect Heights has to offer, I hope the fair is only set up on, and supported by, the western side of the street.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

I knew someone would go there.

I'm gonna stand on the yellow line myself.
