Whirlyboid Over Park Place

Does anyone know why a helicopter is flying in a psuedo-stationary flight path between Park Pl & Atlantic Ave at 8 in the AM? I'm assuming it's a news copter. So what's the news?

Were they black helicopters?

A white Bell Jet Ranger with what looked like blue stripes and a couple of fonts. I tried using my binoculars but the magnification (fixed) is too much.

They've been all over the park and Park Slope, too. The ones I saw said NYPD, so I was just wondering if it was training or something is going on.

Lots of police presence in the subway system as well. Perhaps related to the bomb/hijack threat re: the NYC bound plane? (pure speculation).

It could just be one of the "cop surges" they tend to have.

I saw that this morning while walking my dog in Prospect Park. Yesterday there was a chopper doing the same thing in Crown Heights. It looked to be in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Kingston. It hovered for about 45 minutes.

I also saw guys in camo fatigues (don't know if they were National Guard or NYPD) with m16s at Atlantic Center inside the new subway entrance off Flatbush. It looks like they're expecting something.

I head the helicopter, too, and just assumed that it was a training exercise, or NYPD was out looking for somebody.

Now, off to Google News to look up the bomb threat...

usually its some kind of air assistance when the cops are chasing a perp... the copter radios to the guys on the ground where those fleeing are running or hiding
