when the media is shy about race it usually means black guy come on stop being so sensitive. so now people know when they don't mention race of the suspect, they would mention everyone else race of the criminals they are looking for.

Are you serious? You think media crime reports don't report race when it's a black person?

it's a industry standard practice. I read more crime news than anyone. its all over the us. ask anyone working for the media.

also white people wouldn't touch this thread most of them know its the truth and wouldn't say a thing. white people generally avoid topics of white/black race relations. and everyone else gets lost in the lack of debate.

come on have a honest discussion do the media go out of its way not to mention blacks in descriptions of criminals any more?

when i read crime news they always mention Hispanic male or Asian male or Caucasian male they are looking for, but when it comes to blacks they just don't mention race.

I heard this story on the radio and thought it annoying that they had a full description of the guy without stating his race. But, that's not to say that the media doesn't ever say when it's a black guy.

6' and 160 lbs??? Skinny guy! No wonder she kicked his ass.

so why won't liberals touch the black and crime report issue???

What makes you presume that 'liberals' won't mention race but 'conservatives' do? I think you're better of sticking with saying that 'the media doesn't mention that the perpetrator is Black for fear of appearing bigoted.'

And, isn't it technically prejudice for you to PRESUME he is Black despite race not being mentioned? Is it possible that his race couldn't be ascertained? He can't be Chinese? He was in Chinatown, no?

Oh, I get it, he's probably a 'hi-yaller' brotha and 'the media' didn't want to mention his race....

this liberal isn't touching it because i'm unconvinced that it's true. perhaps it is true of the papers you read; could be. but in my experience, white men (and women) are the group least likely to be mentioned by race.

Sweet Tea, am I the liberal here?

I didn't take a look at the link beforehand. It's obvious from the picture that the suspect is of African descent.

I share Armchair Warrior's point that when suspects are Black -- and there are pictures that illustrate this -- the voiceover typically does not mention this. I too find it unsettling -- like the way folks ignore farts in public places. However, I don't know if there is an ideological perspective that is the cause of this. In essence, I don't agree that liberals are less inclined to mention the race of suspects while conservatives are more inclined to do so. I think that there has been historical stigma attached to saying 'Black male suspect', and one of the aspects of social phenomena in this country is that people don't like saying it. So they don't. I view the reluctance to say 'male Black suspect' the same way I view people who say 'bless you' after a sneeze;I think it's cultural phenomena. I don't think conservatives or liberals or more or less inclined to say it.

clarification: i'm not arguing the race of this perp, only that i have not seen that pattern overall.

but hey, maybe i'm dead wrong. all i'm saying is, that's why i'm not taking AW up on his argument.

Oh, I get it, YOU are the liberal not touching it. Cool. Yeah, I think AW is right, but I don't think liberals are less reluctant while conservatives have no such reluctance. Do liberals say African American while conservatives say Black? I recall a time when race of suspects would be menitioned, I would snicker when they said "Suspect is described as an African American male in his early twenties wearing..." How did they know that the suspect was born here? He could be from China! Just because he's Black doesn't mean he's African American!

So true! Yesterday, for instance- the guy who held up the Discovery building? He was first described as Asian. Turns out the guy was Hawaiian.
