Advice Re: Grand Ave. at Putnam Ave. - Safe?

I'm contemplating a move to Grand Ave., just two doors up from Putnam. I'm concerned, though, about the blatant drug dealing at that intersection and the users who may loiter around. I know the intersection is undergoing a "transformation"... but I'm skeptical. Would love to hear from anyone who lives on that block. And BTW, I'm a single white woman in my 30's, if that means anything. I've been living a block from the Gowanus Canal, on a quiet (both in terms of noise and drug dealing) half industrial/ half residential block for 6 years, so the Grand/Putnam/Fulton triangle would be a big change...

You may want to ask this question on Brownstoneras well since several of the regular posters there live near that intersection.
