We're moving and are getting rid of some furniture (sofa, love seat, mattresses). They're all old not in good enough shape to donate. Do we just leave all of it on the sidewalk and hope they are taken on trash day? Or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks.

nope, bring them to the Salvation army at Nostrand Ave by Ave X
They may pick up , clean and usable pieces, give them a call

you can call the city and ask what days they pick up large items, or try housingworks, they may pick up. you can also donate to materials for the arts and your furniture may end up on stage.

Don't leave on the street as that is now considered a source of bed bugs so folks are not supposed to pick up street furniture - the end of a long NY tradition :(

    good point
take pictures and post a classified here, freecycle and craigslist.
If you don't want to deal with calls/emails, at lease announce when you're putting it out for the trash (and that it doesn't have bedbugs)

You said it's not good enough to donate -- Housing Works fo sho doesn't take crap, but I don't know about SalArmy, Goodwill, that place on Atlantic Ave...is it kidney foundation or alzheimers'...

you can post "curb alert" on craigslist. when you do, yer stuff is taken away in a hot minute! or just post in free section--easier than schlepping around.
