Gut Rot: The Automobile?

There is a car which is almost always parked on Warren between 4th and 5th Ave. It is often under work like it is being prepared for a demo derby or something. The paint job says "GUT ROT," amongst many other things.

Anyone know the story? It's quite the vehicle.

I love that car! I see a group of guys working on it every-so-often, although I've never talked to them. I'm always curious as to how they move it for alternate side parking.
