That's a somewhat tepid review. I doubt Ayoub is happy with that.

Yeah, but it's a better review than the one he got from Time Out: http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/restaurants-bars/87142/fornino-park-slope-restaurant-review

I'm surprised it got 1 star. I have found Fornino to be disappointing.

I don't like their dig "It is a restaurant fit for Kings", but otherwise the review seems reasonably accurate

We went once, finding the food underwhelming and overpriced.

Went once also - my ravioli didn't taste (or look) very fresh, the sauce was watery and bland. My lady thought her dish was "fine," but for the price it should have been better than something I could have whipped up at home with a box of Barilla. At least La Villa has their incredible bread and good portions to recommend it.

This article saved me the trip to Fornino PS... I can't stand "cracker-like" crust. The Williamsburg location serves some of the best pizza ever, hands down. Call me boring, but I would just like a clone of the other location... maybe after these reviews Ayoub will change his tune...?

it should be noted that to be reviewed at all is an honor and getting 1 star is special.

many of NYC's most popular restaurants like the breslin, pulino's, spotted pig, tanoreen, the lion and motorino received a single star as well.

in fact motorino is often said to be the city's best pizza and got the same rating as fornino.

just a little food for thought.

Yeah, but if you read the actual review itself, the descriptions of the actual food at Motorino are much much better than the descriptions of Fornino's food.

Sam Sifton is awful. One of the worst "reviewers" of anything I've ever read. His writing drives me absolutely crazy. Every one of his reviews has just awful passages that honestly don't seem like they'd pass on a high school newspaper. Check this :

"You can ignore the salads unless the notion of iceberg with cherry tomatoes and a creamy Gorgonzola dressing intrigues, in which case you’ll be pleased until you realize that you can’t follow it with a salty, thick-crusted, rosemary-scented strip steak. Fornino’s grilled meat options are limited to a portion of chewy skirt steak with bitter greens, olives and more of those cherry tomatoes. There ought to be a law."

What the crap?! Anyway, I miss Frank Bruni. Super snobby and crazy about food. Anyone with me on this? SIFTON IS THE WORST.

    Food reviews are the worst.

Agreed with Sammy G. Sifton can be a snob but doesn't have the depth of knowledge to support his opinions. One would think the Times could do better!

i went once bunch of white girls who wouldn't come towards the ethnic Italian areas of brooklyn to eat, they insisted on eating there.

food was over price for bland fare.

there was a big hubbub when motorino ONLY got 1 star. I am pretty sure no pizza joint has gotten more than that.

Fornino was definitely ahead of it's time. It's not my favorite, but I respect it. I feel like the PS version would be the same.

Went once and was unimpressed. Coming from the Midwest originally I love a cracker thin crust but Fornino's crust had no flavor and overwhelmed the sparse toppings. It was totally out of balance. If I had the money (and the ambition) I'd love to bring a pizza like Zaffiro's in Milwaukee to New Yorkers.
