Malbone Street in 1918

Malbone Street was the site of one of the worst train disasters.Many people perished.The accident took place on the Franklin Avenue Shuttle which was heading for the station at across the street from Ebbets Field.The Street name was later changed to Empire Blvd.

    It certainly was. I recall the curve on the shuttle on the way to the Prospect Park station where we would change trains for the BMT heading for the beach as a child.It always gave me the creeps, and at the time I had never heard about the accident since it was way before my time.As slow as the train went it always squealed and you sort of leaned to one side in your seat.

    There's a guy that I've run in to twice while riding the subway - he may be a little crazy, but he's a pretty good tour guide (he doesn't talk to anyone specifically, just spiels loudly) - he went over the specifics of the accident. Hadn't heard about it before then.
