Subject: where everyone's going in the morning

here's a handy dandy map showing where people from 11238 commute to -
downtown brooklyn, upper east and west sides, mostly -- along with those of us who work locally (by which i mean at the kitchen table)

check it out here.

and here's the link showing where people come from who commute here for work.

mine either, but since my commute is REDONKULOUS, i am not surprised.

i am surprised not to see 10027 (Columbia) show up.

those are some, ah, optimistic commute times, too....

i'd be extremely impressed if my commute to 10016 took 19 minutes.

these days, it seems like i'm waiting 19 minutes for a train to show up...

When deciding what grad school to attend, Columbia got a "thanks, but no thanks" because of the forever long commute. I can't imagine having to do that every day...ew.

Here's where the data comes from and who put together the app:

    http://hairycow.name/commute_map/

He has a caveat that Google maps API is used to determine travel times, and that it assumes driving during non-peak times. So for sure the times will be way off for NYC.

I guess I'm the 0.1% that commutes to 10458 in the Bronx, and I almost choked when I saw the 33 min. travel time. I wish!!

Mine isn't on there either. Surprising, since I know a bunch of people who commute from the neighborhood to the same place as me. What is the methodology here? Is it based on google searches for directions? If so, that seems inherently flawed, since most people already know how to get to their workplaces.
