La Taq Restaurant/Bar Closed

Walked past La Taq on 7th Ave. on the way to the subway this morning and saw a sign in the window that said the bar/restaurant half is closing for good. Anyone know what's up with it? They were shuttered by DOH for nearly 10 days a few weeks back, and the timing seems awfully suspicious. I wonder if the costs of keeping clean got too high. It's a shame. That was a great spot for a cheap drink, some good guac and a quick meal.

So the take-out part will still be open?

that place jumped the shark when they remodeled. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but the vibe and flow of the space totally changed for the worse. It's a shame, because they were really good for a sit down dinner way back when.

Mamacita: The sign says the take-out part with seating in the back will remain open.

Clearly the owners were MORONS who had no sense of what the community wanted.

Isn't that a little harsh? They have 2 successful restaurants in Park Slope.

What makes you say that? The place was generally full throughout the summer, but business slowed after they were closed for health code violations for two weeks. I didn't get the sense that crowds were too small or anything like that, and a lot of my friends thought it to be a reliable weeknight place for the right price.

We ate in the sit-down portion of La Taqueria frequently before they remodeled, but have only gone for take-out since they spiffed up and jacked up the prices. I wouldn't call them morons, but veering upscale in a down economy doesn't seem like the best idea.
