Subject: People Behaving Badly at The GAP Farmers' Market 10-1-10

So as I’m approaching the farmers’ market Saturday, I see this scene unfolding on PPW in front of the Prospect Park Senior Residence (1 PPW @ Union St.):
A minivan taxi has pulled up in front of the residence, and is discharging multiple customers who appear to have significant mobility issues, so he is definitely going to be there a while. But the real gem, completing the scene of chaos, is the douchebag in his green Subaru Forester who has double-parked in the left lane all of 10 feet in front of the taxi so wifey-poo can go do the weekly produce shopping. And he doesn’t just drop her and go, cause she walks around to the driver’s window and starts to chat with him, presumably about what’s on today’s shopping list. In the meantime having effectively totally blocked PPW, a 2 lane queue of pissed off, honking cars has rapidly built across Grand Army Plaza and off toward Flatbush Ave.

And just in case you’re wondering, Mrs. Bag looks like the type who’s attending her Pilates or Zumba class several times per week, so there is no apparent reason why her Douchey hubbie can’t pull up down toward President St. and make her walk a couple of hundred feet, but keep PPW moving.

Now maybe Mr. and Mrs. Bag got used to double-parking by the market on Saturday back in the good old days when PPW was an uber-generous 3 lanes in this location, but with the bike lane and its associated striped out acreage having narrowed PPW by like 20 feet @ Union St., those days are gone-baby-gone.

On the off chance Mr. or Mrs. S. Forester Douchebag lurk on Brooklynian, I have to ask you: Is this behavior because you’re members of Team Stupid, or are you on Team Selfish?

Great post. I myself am impressed by people who double-park next to NOTHING. Or car-service drivers who double park on PPW when they could pull 10 feet ahead or back and stand by a pump instead of completely blocking a lane.

I went to the much smaller Green Market on 5th Ave.. JJ Byrne Park (or whatever they are calling it now) .Washington Park?.. Anyway the atmosphere is friendly, warm, non yuppified and the produce was glorious. I am so tired of these people in the hood who walk around with their entitlement attitudes. I know it could happen on 7th ve or 5th of Gap Green Market but wherever>>>> just get over your selves!

I wish Tello would carry more jumbo eggs. I also wish the Amish and Mennonites would haul horse-ass up here like they do at the Reading Terminal in Philly.

Maybe they were police officers, I see them do crap like this all the time. When they go to Smiling Pizza, which seems to be about three times a day, they park their car in 7th ave, at least 5 feet from the curb. This is not while they are running in to buy a slice and wait for it to be heated. This is so they can sit down at a booth and enjoy their meal while the motorists have to play chicken at 7th and 9th.

Still, unless it's affecting you, you should just let it slide. You will lose your mind in this city if you get irked every time someone does something obnoxious. It just happens too often.

I find Subaru drivers uniformly suck at driving. (YMMV)

you gotta understand that its not the fact they drive subarus ( although that is pretty much the car of choice for these kinds of people, although hybrids come to mind too) but as a long time area resident, i find its that new book smart common sense stupid kind of moron that permiates this area that creates the problem. It just doesnt occur to them that their poor choice in judgement screws up the rest of the people around em..

Funny. I find that it's often the Brooklynites who preface their opinions with "as a long time area resident..." who are the most self-centered and moronic.

How about the ones who preface with "as a native Brooklynite..."?

I've only lived here for a few years, and I'm white, so my opinion doesn't count for anything, but that OP was fine piece of writing!

Wait a sec, is it Brooklynite or Brooklynians? How about Brooklyners? Or maybe we can just be called Brooks.

Brooklynians are a subset of Brooklynites.

How are Brooklynians a subset of Brooklynites? What's the diff? I.e. are they left-handed Brooklynites?
  • whynot_31

As a matter of fact, I am left handed.

......but I doubt all Brooklynians are.

.....which means there is no way that all Brooklynites are.

To stay on topic, I occasionally drive the mother in law's Subaru ....but not in Brooklyn. While she is a horrible driver, I am not.

As the guy states in Rain Man: "I'm an excellent driver"
