It smells so strongly all the way near Franklin and Lincoln that at first I thought my building was on fire! I walked around the vicinity but could not figure out where it was coming from. I hope everyone is OK!

Smoke is covering crown/prospect heights. Firemen said it's from Jersey. Smoke everywhere reported from someone on the Verrazzano.

Also, if it's in NJ, they why have I heard so many fire trucks driving down eastern parkway heading east?

because the FD has to check out every report of smoke, even though most are from the jersey city fire. no way of knowing there isn't another fire without going to check it out.

listen in on the radio link BL posted. they're having a busy night all over brooklyn.

Subject: toxic burning smell still strong

5:45am and can still smell it near BAM. woke me up at 4am thinking my building was on fire. been up ever since & feeling slightly ill from it. wondering why i hadn't heard any sirens.

a google search brought me to you guys - glad to discover this blog!

hope the fire is put out soon and we aren't all made toxicly ill by it!!

I happened to be on Franklin Avenue and I saw a fire truck make a right on to Franklin off of St. Johns. The air was thick with smoke. I thought the fire was nearby. If it wasn't, it must have been a heck of a blaze. I saw nothing in the papers or heard anything on the news. Has anyone else heard anything?

took a couple of tries at the ol' Google to pull up this article...newspapers and journalism in general has become so useless...but here's a link to the story.

they had to bring in a FIRE BOAT to put out the damn fire. it wasn't declared extinguished until 12:30 this afternoon.
