Eastern Parkway and Nostrand anybody?

Help needed- how is Eastern Parkway and Nostrand compared to St. Marks and Franklin???? I am looking on 2 apts for almost the same size and price but I can't set my mind which one to take. Eastern Parkway is a much nicer street but is lacking all the nightlife on Franklin and the nice stores. What do you think? Also how's the safety on st marks vs nostrand ???? Any help would be much appriciated

These corners (E. Pkwy and Nostrand and E. Pkwy and Franklin) are pretty close together, so you would still be close to the nightlife if you lived in Nostrand and E. Pkwy. The latter is obviously closer to public transit, albeit a local train. You'd have a great view of the parade on Labor Day!

More vegetarian island type food on Nostrand (assign that factor a plus or minus, up to you.

Though you are closer to the trains at EP and Nostrand.., I really appreciate having the choice to catch all four trains - 2,3,4 and 5 - at one station on one platform at Franklin Ave and EP. At EP and Nostrand you have to make a conscious choice to go to the 2,5 train station or 3,4 train which are about 2 blocks apart.

If Night Life is also a determining factor, most definitely take the Franklin Ave. apt. Even though the distance from EP and Nostrand may be actually 3 blocks closer than St. Marks and Franklin - to most of the current "hot spots" near to EP and Franklin Ave.

There is something about being on the actual Ave. (Franklin) that feels more "jumping" and immediately a part of, than being three blocks away on quiet Eastern Parkway and Nostrand.

Bingo. I've lived on or near both blocks and definitely preferred the experience at St Marks. A big plus is the huge collection of young professionals living in the Alma Realty complex (Jewish Hospitals), and of course the shuttle train. Plus while Vanderbilt and Washington are still a hike by foot from Franklin, they're pretty much only bikable or busable from Nostrand. Parking is also better by St Marks.

And, I forgot to say, at St. Marks & Franklin, you are 5 -6 blocks between the 2,3,4 & 5 in one direction and the C train in the other. More choices of trains, trains, trains!!!!

I'd take the apartment near Franklin. Better amenities and fantastic transportation. I am not sure about safety level of Nostrand, but all of the activity on Franklin--which is increasing because of new restaurants, etc.--makes it feel safe. But, whatever you decide, welcome to the neighborhood!

OP.... you should look at places on Park & Prospect between Classon/Franklin. You'd be down the block from the shuttle stop. Just don't move too close to the shuttle. Ideally you'd prob wanna be on one of the corners.

It is about your building as much as it is the location.

How big are the two buildings you are considering?

....even though you are renting, big buildings may have less of a sense of ownership.

Although i am NOT sure the exact size of either of them- The one next to Franklin is a smaller 6-8 family building and the Eastern Parkway one is probably a 15-20 unit bulding

My question was more to you as something to consider as you make your choice.

I live close to EP and Nostrand, it isnt really bad, there isnt much night life there except for the Dunkin Donuts being open really late, there are a good number of cops in the area though, so I guess there's your safety. It's a pretty much quiet area except for the occasional fallouts.
