New to the area, how does trick or treating work in the area? Do kids go store to store or house to house? What time of day do kids usually trick or treat? Please let me know.

Thanks.

PH is great for trick or treating. I've been going with my kids for years. I don't recall when it starts, but I think around 6PM. Lots of kids go out, and there are a lot of houses giving out candy. We usually go up Park from Vanderbilt to Underhill, then up Underhill to Sterling and back to Vanderbilt. That's usually about enough for our kids.

    Halloween Social- Sunday October 31, 2010 Time: 4:00 – 7:00 PM

Calling all residents of Sterling and Butler Place: Come out and join your neighbors for some ghoulish fun!

The residents of Sterling and Butler Place are getting together again for our annual Halloween festivities! Join us by sitting out on your stoop, a friend’s stoop, or in front of your building and distributing candy* to the trick-or-treaters. Some people will be socializing with “spirits” to celebrate the event.

We encourage everyone to dress up – both yourselves and your homes! Most of this will take place on Sterling between Vanderbilt and Underhill.

There is also a parade on Franklin Avenue tomorrow afternoon with some pumpkin decorating afterwards.

We run out of candy every year. We live close to Vanderbilt and St. Marks.

Do people think kids will be out tonight too (saturday)?

to add to the areas folks already mentioned, there will be homes welcoming young trick or treaters as early as 4pm on st. marks between carlton and vanderbilt and underhill between dean and bergen. i understand that some tenants of the new condos on sterling and washington also may welcome young trick-or-treaters in the early evening.

generally speaking, look for the decorated houses (usually with lights on in the doorways); in condos, check with the doorman first and then ring on decorated doors!
