Subject: Joey's Gourmet Lunchboxx

It's been closed the past few days. Anybody know anything? The opening hours have been erratic at best. They seem to open whenever they want, hardly a way to build a customer base. This inconsistency is the only thing consistent about this joint.

Don't know about Joey's. They never seem to have a lot of folks in there, and the guys that hang in front are seldom eating or drinking. I want them to succeed, but I wonder if they are doing okay.

Have you tried the new sandwich place Syd's between St John's & Lincoln? The cheesesteaks are actually pretty good (albeit on the skimpy side) and they have been consistent thus far in quality.

Hmm. I replied to homeowner, but it did not show up. I said that I wished Joey's great success, but they don't seem to know what they're doing when it comes to running a business. The food at Joey's is pretty good, and you get your money's worth. I'm very happy to have something other than Caribbean, Chinese or chicken take out places which, for the most part, are pretty lousy. I haven't tried Syd's yet, but I plan to.

Agreed. Syd's does not disappoint. And Joey's service has been very lackluster recently. We spoke with the owner tonight to tell him our own personal frustrations with the service. He explained that they've been working through various issues but that he really is trying. We told him to check out Brooklynian so he could get a sense of people's complaints so that he can try to address it. He is very open.

And on a positive note - Joey's will be donating hot chocolate to the volunteers for the Nostrand Ave. clean up on Saturday! Also, BCakeNY, owned by a Crown Heights resident, will be donating some cupcakes.

Last thing, on our way to speak with Joey's we spotted a new bar opening tonight: http://nostrandpark.com/2010/11/04/new-bar-and-lounge-opens-on-nostrand-legacy/
