I can only refer you to this site, that covers such things:

    http://spotcrime.com/crime/13573688-9a4367619eac4527e3804e4d9bc05cca

read together with the cryptic site "everyblock"

    http://nyc.everyblock.com/crime/

    or

    http://gothamist.com/map/

one can become quite depressed, scared, or aware.

dont worry mike is fudging the numbers so that this is the safest city in the country..... right Mr Bloomberg?

Biggest problem with shootings is that Bloomberg doesn't want taxpayers to shoot back.

S.O.S., Save Our Streets Crown Heights, will be having a shooting response Thursday, November 11th, 3:00 PM at the corner of Troy Ave and St. John's place[b].

S.O.S. Crown Heights organizes a shooting response for every single shooting in the 77th precinct. A Shooting response in an event that mobilizes the community to make the statement that these shootings and killings are unacceptable. They last approximately 30 minutes and acknowledge the tragedy of the violence and send the hopeful message that together we can transform the community.

Please come out and join your voices to the cause of ending the shooting and killing in Crown Heights. No matter the cause of the violence, the solution must be the same; to make our community a safer place and end gun violence in Crown Heights.

with 66 shootings in your area one would think a b unch of protestors isnt getting the point across.... perhaps the masses need to take back their streets and testify against these animals who think the jungle is the way of the streets..

    Hi everybody.

I have a friend looking at an apartment on Troy and Lincoln. Still really rough over there? Saw there was another shooting in June on the Lincoln Corner. Just trying to feel out if there's been any improvement in that area or somewhere a female should avoid walking around alone.

    Thanks.

I don't believe so. My rule is: if the street is the name of a town upstate, don't go there.

I have found the locations of Family Dollar stores to be pretty reliable. Make sure to select "city and state", then type Brooklyn, NY

    Check it:

Lincoln between Albany and Troy isn't a bad block. I occasionally park my car there. Troy itself between Lincoln and St. Johns has some seedy characters hanging out there during the day. My office is on St. Johns right off of Troy. Been here nine years and never had a problem. The people I deal with are very nice.

I'd rather have the shady people in my building/block - that way they would look out for me! Do they do that over there?

    Nice!

Mine was CH specific. If you google maps search for "restaurants" and you ONLY find chinese places and fried chicken (coupled with an attached pizza joint is extra points) its generally also not a good area.

Those folks at Family Dollar seem to have specific neighborhoods they cater to.

...If I want a low quality goods in a troubled, low income neighborhood, they have become my go to source.

    Forget the census!

check cash places are even better than family dollar stores as a indicator of the area.

Hmm. Interesting that they're dotted everywhere else around CH but CH itself is a huge swath of land without them, except a few at the extreme edges.

I would have put one on Utica Avenue, but I feel uncomfortable telling them how to run their business.

    AW-

I have. As you suspect, they are more prevalent in the poor, crime ridden areas. ...but they are also in some nice areas.

As a result, Family Dollar remains my favorite.

    try again if you like.

To get your wish, you may need to move. Presumably, not enough people around you feel the way you do.

They probably just can't make the numbers work, given the rents around you.
