Hey all,

I live on 9th St at 7th Ave and there's finally been something going on at the old Second Helpings space over the last three weeks. They gutted it and now they're doing some construction but no clues yet as to what the deal will be. Anyone have insight?

I'm going to guess it might have to have something to do with this post...

Yeah I saw that too and thought that it was a possibility considering they're talking grab and go and it's a small space.

So I have an update on this. There's a sign in the window today that says 'coming soon - Vietnamese Kitchen'.

This is what i was desperately hoping for. IF this is an actual real-deal Vietnamese restaurant and not just another Bahn-Mi joint, I will be beyond excited. It's the one thing I've been wishing for in the Slope for the last four years.

If it's even half-way decent, I will be thrilled to have it 10 houses away =)

I will be so excited if it's a place that offers anything other than bahn mi. I love bun, and can't find it anywhere in PS.

Me too..and Pho and some Vermicelli noodle salads!

Place has a name and a sign up now too! Ha Noi Vietnamese Kitchen.

    Yay!

I just went by there today and it has it's name up now - Ha Noi Vietnamese Kitchen. It sounds like a full restaurant, not just a sandwich place. I hope they have the big soups and the main dishes like bo luc lac - love that.

I just also hope it's not overpriced like Saigon was, or to a lesser extent Hancos. Vietnamese food shouldn't be expensive. Otherwise I'll just have to keep going down to U street for my Vietnamese fix.

I'd seen this thead last month at some point, but it was surely surprising to walk by this space the day after returning from a two week trip to Hanoi. I hope so badly that they do a good job of this place, it'd be awesome if they had bun cha. I didn't make my trip to Vietnam for the food because all prior experiences of having pho in the US were poor and gave me a bad impression of the cuisine, but in reality real Vietnamese food is amazing and I'd love to have some quality stuff nearby. Hope the new owners are reading.

Don't want to sound like health food nut but I do avoid the sugar thing and I find Vietnamese food (in the States) seems to have lots of the "Let's add in white sugar for the fun of it" going on.

They must be making Hanco's nervous because they have a sign up that says they now serve Beef Noodle Soup and Ice Cream. It's not an appetizing sign because it sounds like they're going to serve those two things together. Also, that new Vietnamese place says it's coming soon, but judging from the work that still needs to be done, I don't think it will be that soon.

Everyone really stains their pants over Vietnamese joints in this 'hood, don't they?

I like the banh mi sandwiches at Hanco's! Why does everyone hate on my access to banh mi sandwiches?

I like banh mi too. Love the smell of pickled carrots. But there are two of those places on 7th ave within about 5 blocks of each other. This one is one block from Hancos. I don't think anyone is hating on banh mi, just looking for a full on Vietnamese restaurant.

Imagine an American dude living in Vietnam on a block with several Subway restaurants. If he knows a new American restaurant is opening on his block, he's probably hoping for an Applebys rather than another Subway.

I'm sure Vietnamese people living in American suburbia cream their pants every time a new Long John Seafood opens though.

Nothing like mediocre morsels to get the blood pumping.

Someone's really into creaming or staining pants.

It opened yesterday. I'll definitely be trying it soon.
