I tried when I found that feature while browsing the Sunday Times online yesterday morning. I thought they were boring and pretentious, and I felt stupid for not understanding or appreciating them better, despite being no stranger to performance, having once been to five plays per week.

Then I found reader comments that included criticism, and no longer felt stupid:

Fun comments...all of them true or on point. Loved the mirror kissing, as I did this, especially when wearing a very red lipstick (but no tongue, yuk) and Michael Douglas...and yes, actors are a dime a dozen but who cares. And yes, the diversity was lacking. But, am a point above neophyte status and prefer this because it is a teachable state.

I don't quite get it either, but I love Javier Bardem smashing plates: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/12/12/magazine/20101212-oscars.html
