The postal service around these parts

Ok,

I know its the holiday season, so I cannot complain now, but I've noticed that since August my mail delivery has gotten worse and worse. My mail doesn't come until evening, and many of the magazines that I subscribe to either A) come EXTREMELY LATE or B) Not at all.

Many of them are time sensitive weeklies like The New Yorker, Time Out New York, and New York magazine.

I live in the 11232 postal code right on 4th avenue. Has anyone had this problem? Is it better to just get a P.O. box?

thanks in advance

Could be a new carrier, b/c the carriers make all the difference. There was a rotating group of them at our last apartment and most were horrible, even skipping days in a row. Right now our main guy is awesome and aims to be good at his job and I don't take him for granted.

We've had similar issues with USPS in other parts of Brooklyn and it's hard to deal with. It might a good start to call your local post office and ask for the manager and nicely ask if there has been a change of carriers there that might explain your problems. Otherwise, PO Box might be better but could have the same problems.

We once got a package sent by the, totally beaten up, months after it was sent from within the US. He didn't even ring bells, but just left a stack of boxes for tenants sitting at the front door. Ugh.

Hopefully it will get better for you.

Par for the course when dealing with unionized government employees.

Ha! And we all know how great UPS and FedEx can be. Anyone ever been to Maspeth to pick up a package?!

You should be grateful that you experienced a period of relative competence.

I was waiting on a lens hood from China. After a month (the delivery time frame specified by the seller), I contacted the seller and obtained a tracking number. The item was on the way back to China after having sat at the PO for 3 weeks. Thanks, USPS!

UPS and Fedex have been great for me, but I've never had to go to store front to pick-up a package.

The Fire Department is made up of unionized government employees and they will be at your door in under four minutes.

On Second Street, we now have the postman I've been waiting for all my life.

I could set my watch by him.

He sorts the mail carefully before delivering it. He notices when he has letters addressed to the wrong people at the right street address, and asks me whether they now live here (or whether they are misaddressed). He does not give me letters addressed to streets in other parts of Brooklyn (e.g. East 2nd Street).

    He's terrific!

My mailman says things like "oh yeah, I need to remember to bring your mail tomorrow" when I corner him directly in our hallway. Even his supervisor had nothing to add to this.

Our mail carrier Walter is the best, but unfortunately with the huge increase in population (condos, no offense), the poor man must be delivering 4 times the amount as 2 years ago.

I have a problem where I get mail for all the...questionable related entities nearby, but not all my own mail. For example, the ground floor is a business that gets mail under a lot of different entity names. I get stuff addressed to churches, day cares, tax prep, etc. - all with just my building address on it and no apartment number. Next door shares a similar address (like if we're building 123, they're 123A). I get mail for all of these different places, especially the business below me - I probably get at least two pieces per day for them. But my own mail does not arrive reliably. I'm guessing it is going to the vacant apartment's box or to the next door neighbors who themselves have an overflowing mailbox.

Is this a carrier issue? Or an issue of better sorting at the main office? Is this even something that can be helped with a phone call to someone? I guess from the sound of the other posts here I should be happy that there is something coming daily...I just wish it were actually for me.
