I am not shocked at all - that is how I have repeatedly witnessed NY drivers driving - as though life was a bumper car game - and pedestrians are fair game -

Guy shooting the vid is priceless, screaming like there was a baby in a stroller under the wheels. You got video of it, looks like a slam dunk insurance claim. The car wasn't even close to destroyed, probably drove it to the repair shop...

No way they drove to the repair shop...

They never finished plowing out the street. Bet that car and its bumper are still sitting there. #-o

Brooksignal = the guy that won't try and help get your car not get smashed

Other people on the street were also trying to stop the driver, good pedestrians.

I read somewhere that it was a city owned vehicle. Doh!

My only complaint is that the guy didn't throw some clothes on and go down to videotape the damage to the car.

the second post above from ny mag says the explorer was a city car. so nobody's going to sue anyone and we all get to pay.

NY is no fault. Explorer's insurance company will pay the damages automatically without sending a bill to the City. Under normal circumstances the driver at fault would only suffer paying a higher premium but since it's likely the City is self insured absolutely nothing will happen.

The only protest here would be a minuscule fractional rise in insurance premiums for everyone associated with the Explorers insurance company. No lawyers needed contrary to the voice over.

Your insurance premium cannot be raised for filing a claim if

Your car was legally parked when it was damaged

    Your are hit from behind

The other driver leaves the scene (hit and run)

The other driver is issued a citation for traffic violation (only happens if the cops actually witness the violation)
