Being new to the nabe, I just wanted to know how this block is during the "hot" summer weather. What has been your experience good or bad on this block?

A friend of mine lives there now and she says it's not too crazy. The teenagers are out late during the summer, but no shooting or anything dangerous if that is what you mean. You probably will just have to deal with a lot of loud music because the kids are out of school.

I'm scheduled to move in this summer and if this is all that I have to worry about, I can handle that. Thanks. If anyone else has any thoughts, please share.

Hi. My Finace and I are moving to Bergen Street Between NY and BK within the next month. I am curious to know if you have moved in yet and how you are finding the block and surrounding neighborhood. We went yesterday, and people were giving us some unwelcoming glances. I am sure it is nothing...just curious to hear from someone who lives on the block.

    Thanks a million!

Hi!!! No... we have not moved in yet because we're still renovating, but I'm there every Saturday and I've never felt unsafe or as if I didn't belong. I've introduced myself to a couple of the neighbors so far and they've been very friendly and welcoming. Did you buy or are you renting? Just curious!

As far as the surrounding area, it has some of the best architecture in Brooklyn. The amenties are not there yet, but there is great potential.

I'm surprised that more people have not posted their opinions on this block, but then again that may mean that nothing worth talking about takes place there -- and that is a good thing.

I am not too too familiar with the block. I know some long time residents on that block. When I am through there it seems to be a quiet block. It summer so kids will be kids.
Bergen and Kingston I would stay clear of in the night. It has gotten better over the years, but there are still some knuckle heads over there.

    Otherwise its a quiet block.

Thanks for the info!!!! We are renting for the time being, but if we like the neighborhood, we are going to consider buying. We get the keys this saturday, and will start doing little moves with the car, but our big move is the last week in July. I'm looking forward to meeting people on the block - hopefully we'll get to meet soon.

Curiously, where is the closest grocery store?

Hello Curious. I'm on Park Place between New York and Brooklyn. For groceries I often walk to the Super Foodtown on Brooklyn between Herkimer St. and Fulton. You have to cross Atlantinc Ave., but from Bergen it's really close. This is a seriously nice supermarket. Very large, clean and well stocked. Way better than the Key Food and Met Food on Nostrand, but I do shop those stores occasionally for last minute items because they're on my walk home from the 3 train on Eastern Parkway.

Thanks for the grocery info! I cook all the time, so this is essential information. :-)

Next question, which may seem silly, but is the 2/3 an easier walk to Bergen between NY and BK or the A/C?

Thanks again for all the info everyone!

Either walk is 'easy', for me at least. I prefer walking to the 3 train on Nostrand and Eastern Parkway for two reasons: 1. I find the walk more pleasant because Eastern Parkway is more 'sceninc', what with the elm trees and all; and 2. I almost always get a seat on the the 3 train while the A tends to be more crowded. All this despite the fact that my commute would be a few minutes shorter if I took the A train from Nostrand, and my walk on the Manhattan end would be shorter by a whole avenue.

I'm glad to hear that FoodTown is nice, clean and well-stocked. I truly believe that this block is a decent block with decent people. I can't wait to move in. Good Luck!!! I'm looking forward to meeting you too!

hi there - i live in bergen between brooklyn/kingston and have a friend that lives on bergen between brooklyn/new york..around here the place to avoid in the evenings is brower park. lots of muggings. Otherwise we've been fine, although we do have a car and don't walk too often to the train. The shootings are scary..we have a baby and if things don't improve in the next couple years will need to move. I'm all for putting pressure on the precinct, our representatives whatever it takes. We've met with head of the precinct, etc..I agree however with an early poster that a main problem is there are just too many guns on the street...

Just wanted to say that we have been here for about a month now and LOVE our block (Bergen between bk nd ny) Great neighbors, great place - we're thrilled. We can't wait to host our first Canadian Thanksgiving (first Monday in October) in this most excellent of neighborhoods!

I'm glad to hear that you're so thrilled. We haven't moved in yet because the renovation has lasted longer than we expected due to the unexpected, but I agree that this block is a great block. I hope that it will only get better. I can't wait to join you in your bliss!!!

Brower Park isn't that bad. There just needs to be a better police presence there at night time.

That park is actually quite nice. And will be even nicer once they
    finish renovating the BCM
