Physical Therapy in the Neighborhood
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good physical therapist in the neighborhood? Meaning, you had more than one or two sessions and also meaning you felt they were paying attention to you and not multitasking, etc. Thank you.

retrofreshI don't know if it's a convenient neighborhood for you, but I love Sam and Nick at Rebound PT on Quentin Rd in Marine Park (with a second location on Avenue P near Kings Highway). I went there for months and found them and their staff to be attentive and thorough, and caring. They never overbooked so there was never a wait. Parking isn't bad around there either.

theindecisionpigeonyes - 100% - i've been in PT on and off for the last 2 years after a bad accident. go to one-on-one PT. they're in the eastern athletic club on eastern parkway at grand army.

they have a few locations - i happen to go to the one in downtown bk (in the equinox) cause it's on the way to work, but the head therapist is the same in both locations:

hope this helps!

jmlI went to Park Sports on Garfield for a couple of weeks and thought they were very good. The head people are affiliated with the Hospital for Special Surgery. The person I worked with was very attentive and seemed to know what she was doing. They helped my shoulder quite a bit.

goodprospectI went to One on One after 2 back surgeries, and an ankle surgery, and thought they were so-so - the head therapists are good, but I felt like I was on an assembly line. Last summer I was sent by my spine doctor to a PT place affiliated with NYU Medical Center/Hospital for Joint Diseases, It's called called OIOC, and it's in the far West Village. At first I thought it would be hard to get to but it was super-easy - steps away from the #1 train Houston Street stop. They are F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. They REALLY know what they are doing. I actually couldn't wait to go each session. For the first time, PT made a huge difference for me.

theindecisionpigeon@GoodProspect - agreed that sometimes one-on-one can feel like an assembly line, but that's the nature of learning your routine and doing it fairly independently 2-3 times a week. they watch you, tho, and interject / add elements where necessary.
when it comes to the stretching / massage / ultrasound / etc tho you can request that only the head therapist work on you - the assistants are there to learn, but everyone is given the opp to say they only want the head PT. i usually only have jesse (the head PT) work on my knee / leg and he's great.

goodprospectOnce I spent a few months working with a therapist at OIOC, I saw the difference between a true expert and someone who's in it to make money (and perhaps help a few people along the way). IMHO.

goodprospectjust thought of one illustration:
at One on One they are fond of using ultrasound and TENS to reduce inflammation....it feels good, no doubt about it. Does it really work? I'm not so sure. I had major inflammation issues and at OIOC they never used the ultrasound or TENS, though I saw that they had both units. They focused on getting my weak areas stronger, occasionally adding ice at the end of a workout. I found this approach far more effective and labor intensive for the therapist (which may seem counterintuitive, but it's true). The ultrasound and TENS seem, in retrospect, like add-ons which may have some clinical effectiveness but definitely are effective when it comes to what the establishment can bill insurance for. -
stoopladyI must still not understand (nor do I like very much) the new set up of the Brooklynian. Thanks for your posts...didn't see them as they didn't show up on my email reminder thing.
I am going to check out OIOC.
One last question...has anyone used the PT place next to the Park Slope Food Coop?
Thanks.
