Where to get temporary No Parking signs?

Hi. Does anyone know to which city agency I apply to get a tempoary no parking sign for in front of my building?

I'm going to be moving at the end of June, and I'd like to know there'll be room for my moving truck without blocking off the street to everyone else.

I assume Brooklyn gives this out? In Jersey City, I just go to the "Parking Authority" to get them.

I'd love to hear the details if this is true, because I've never heard of it. Not that I'm moving anytime soon.

I have never heard of such a thing in NYC - we have been getting dumpsters lately and we usually hold the spot in two ways: put some garbage cans in the spot or park your car there or ask a neighbor or two to park their cars there. With the garbage cans it helps to buy some caution tape (otherwise most NYers will just move the cans) and wrap it the length of the cans.

If you do find out about that temporary "no parking" I would love to hear about it.

I figured I'd give a call to 311, who transfered me to the department of transportation. I left a message with the assistant director of authorized parking (nice title), so let's see if he calls me back with info.

The only method I know of is "get up early and sit in a lawnchair." Works better in summer. Last time I moved was in February.

I spoke to the very nice Assistant Director today and the DOT does not give out no parking signs but he said that the police precinct does it for production companies, parades, etc. He didn't know if they gave them out for moving, but suggested I call and speak to the desk sergeant.

    I'll keep you guys posted.

You might have better luck if you go in person (and bring Mr. Franklin with you). Not that I'm suggesting anything untoward...
