Police Racing up 16th St

Sorry for a post of this nature, but my curiosity has gotten the better of me and I can't find any info online. Does anyone know why police cars were racing up 16th St (near 5th and 6th Aves) this morning at about 3:45am? I know that a few police cars isn't a big deal, but I swear I counted at least 20 speeding by light flashing and sirens blaring...

These are the regular "show of strength" rides that allegedly show people the police are there. These started after 9/11.

yeah that was the feeling I got, tsarina. I see them do it in Manhattan all the time, esp on the West Side highway.

can't wait for them to run someone over going literally 60-70 MPH down a residential block.

Yes, Boygabriel and hopefully they will respond in a much more controlled, slower fashion when on the way to your call of someone breaking into your home at 4am while you're asleep.
