Brooklyn rallies for first-ever national Caribbean-American Heritage Month

(06/02/06) CROWN HEIGHTS – Brooklyn residents are rallying for the first-ever national Caribbean-American Heritage Month in June.

Advocates pushed for the heritage month starting in the 1990s. The House and Senate recently passed the measure, which now awaits approval from President Bush. Community groups say Brooklyn is home to one of the largest populations of Caribbean-Americans in the country.

Celebrations are planned all this June. They include the music, food and culture of the Caribbean.
