Emergency Hair Cut

Anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive but not terrifying place for a trim? My favorite snipper in the city has moved to a pricier salon so I can't justify seeing her more than twice a year. I'll pay as much as $40 for a shampoo and a decent cut in the city or in Brooklyn. I'd love to support a private shop (as opposed to a Supercuts or a Jean Louis David) and I'd love even more to find a place in the 'hood but the only one I can think of is Medusa on 7th Ave and I get the feeling they charge more than I want to pay.

Any ideas?

There's at least 3 on Washington, but I can't vouch whether they'll pass the terrifying watermark. All 3 are between Lincoln and Sterling.

I go to Le Chandelier in Park Slope (Garfield and 5th, I think - right across from the 5th ave Ozzy's) - its 35.00 for a shampoo and cut and blow dry with Layla, and she does great work.

    Subject: Hey what about Tyrel's

Tyrel's is on vanderbilt near Dean. $12.00

There may be a fear factor but they do good work.
