Mother Recovering After Taking Bullet For Son In Brooklyn

The mother of a 22-year-old is recovering in the hospital Tuesday after police say she stepped between a gunman and her son outside her Crown Heights building Monday morning.

Police are searching for three to four men in connection with the shooting of Maryann Pughe on Park Place, just yards from a school playground full of children.

According to the NYPD, Pughe’s son was fighting with several men when the 52-year-old mother stepped in to break it up. She was shot once in the back and rushed to Kings County Hospital, where she is expected to survive.

Police say some witnesses chased the suspects, but were not able to catch them.

Investigators say they have no motive for the fight or the shooting.
