Cost for Electricity Bill for Heat

I am about to sign a lease on an apartment in Bed Stuy area, but I am hesitant as I just found out that I would be responsible for paying for all utilities. It’s a two bedroom and about overall medium sized apartment. The landlord said that everything (heat/ hot water/cooking) runs off of electricity. I am just concerned during winter months how much would our bill be… I’m estimating $250- $300 during the winter. I was wondering if anyone pays their own heat via electricity… or could suggest a good estimate for costs.

It's not unusual to pay for your own heat. Although I haven't seen too much heating by electric outside of the 'burbs. Now or days, with the cost of oil going through the roof, your bill will vary. I don't think it'll come cheap. You should make sure the apartment is well insulated. This includes windows, walls. gaps in the floors...all drafts and leaks. It does help immensely. I would say $300's is a good figure to start at.
