Cable TV: anyone in PH not screwed? Have tips?

Hi, I'm wondering if I can just pick the brain of my community.

I currently get Cablevision basic TV, phone and Internet, but I'd like to upgrade to cable and DVR. I've read that to get around high cable rates, you have to tell the company you're going to switch providers and tell them which deal they have to match...

Problem is: I can't get any info on Cablevision competitors in our area. There seem to be none. Are there any?

So any advice on what to do to pay less for cable TV would be great.

DirecTV and FIOS are the only competitors, using satellite and fiber respectively.

Cablevision has a monopoly on coaxial cable-delivered media in the area.

The only competitors are Direct TV and FIOS. Cable in NYC is awarded by contract and Cablevision "owns" this area. There is no competition in cable. Each company has a monopoly in the areas they serve.

Thanks! I thought FIOS was unavailable. At least that's what the website made it seem to be... Good to know.

Fios is still only available in certain buildings and areas.

If you can't get it, try dish.

Cablevision doesn't have to know whether FIOS is available to you in order for you to use FIOS to obtain pricing leverage.

    I love free market capitalism.
