I feel like I'm not supposed to be scared by this, but as a female in the area, I am. Really scared...especially given the other crimes that have taken place over the past few weeks in the area.

As a woman, I think you are wise to be very cautious about being out alone at 1 AM.

As a male, I try to avoid it as well.

Risk can be reduced, but never eliminated. Hopefully they catch the guy.

I am glad the victim was not physically hurt, but suspect her psychological wounds will take a while to heal.

There was another attempted mugging near here last week, by a group of guys against two other guys. My understanding was that the muggers were arrested, and I don't believe they had weapons. It seems to me it would be worth reaching out to the 77th Precinct to see what is happening, and whether they can increase foot patrols in the area. Community Affairs Liaison for the 77 is: (718) 735-0634. Also, the precinct community council meeting is held every second Monday of the month at 7:30 at 127 Utica Avenue, which would be next Monday.

I can't say I'm totally jazzed about this either. And, by "other crimes" can you share? I haven't heard about anything.

Finally, I wish PHP would get its neighborhood boundaries correct. It often reports on things in Ft. Greene or Crown Heights as having happened in Prospect Heights. This crime, however, is clearly in PH territory.

I am not sure which crimes jalila was referring to. But as far as I know there was a gunpoint robbery at the at&t on flatbush at park place (on the park slope side, if you want to talk boundaries) and a different mugging on carlton a week and a half ago (to which i referred above).

also, i called the precinct and the community meeting for this month is monday, april 11. but it is at the church at 362 Sterling at Underhill at 7:30 pm. anyone who is worried about this ought to go to the meeting and voice your concerns.
