Yet Another New Coffee Shop on Washington Ave

Looks like another new coffee shop will be opening on Washington Ave right next to Minor Arcana and just a few doors down from Sit & Wonder. (Seems kinda ballsy to me.)

Along the same stretch of Washington between Prospect and St. Marks there is work being done in the old cake supply and decorating place as well as the old Kinky Krowns storefront.

What?! There is not enough hipster money to go around?

The Kinky Krowns storefront is supposed to become a bar, and work is going on at a pretty good clip.

...they applied for a liquor permit from CB 8 a while ago.

The work at the cake decorating place is being done by friends of mine. They are opening a home brewing supply shop. They'll sell supplies, run classes on how to brew beer, and allow people to brew beer in the shop. They live in the neighborhood, and are working really hard to have the place open by the end of the month.

I knew the good folks here would be able to fill in the gaps on those other storefronts. Thanks!

Hmm. Well, for what it's worth it looks like it's mostly finished inside.

Yeah, I'm familiar with it (my wife and I had a shop on the block, years ago). I didn't have the time or energy to look up the threads last night, but here ya go - http://www.brooklynian.com/forum/prospect-heights/new-coffee-bar-on-washington

It's been in a state of "almost done," for 5 years, not 3, as my sleep-deprived self stated last night. The guy that owns the place is really nice, but seemed a little... unfocused. At one point, he mentioned including a sauna (no, I'm not kidding).

When is Skazzy going to open?

...are they going to serve the frozen burgers and chicken that Crown Fried Chicken left behind?

if they did, it would be pretty skazzy.

There were workers inside Skazzy doing some cleaning and set up this afternoon. There's an unattractive new mural on the back wall.

As to the Kinky Krowns space, the people taking over that endeared themselves to me when they were offering cupcakes to passers-by one day when they were in there working. I'm a little bummed that it's going to be a bar, though - I was hoping for more food options.

Ten years ago, when Washington was mostly storefront churches, hair salons, and West Indian take-out, I'd get excited whenever a new place was about to open. Inevitably, though, it'd turn out to be another storefront church, hair salon, or West Indian take-out.

The mix has finally changed, but the same spirit of dumb immitation persists. Another coffee shop? Genius!

We should start a thread of shops people would actually want to see on Washington. A green grocer? A drug store? A bike shop to go with the new bike lanes?

I've heard green grocers are no longer profitable.

Thriftway is an ok drug store.

...a real bagel place would be nice.
