lost peahen?

A large bird and I startled each other in my front yard this morning. It scurried into my neighbor's yard at 947 Pacific St., between Grand and Washington. I think it's a peahen--size of a turkey, dark gray speckled body, white face, loud cries all night long.

They're not native, so I assume someone was keeping it as a pet. Anyone?

Is there a slaughter house near by? We have had them in our 'nabe, escapees from the halal slaughter house on 3rd Ave

Yes! There's a live poultry store on Classon, a block away. How crazy.

I just called T&S Live Poultry Inc, but they say it's not theirs. So the mystery continues.

comon guys we need to name the peahen.

"Zelda" (Turkey)from Battery Park is already taken.

I vote for Yossarian (after anti-hero from catch-22)

    I'd call him "nugget"

<--- I'm an animal lover, this is a joke name, BTW.

yes, people eat peacock. Some of them use these recipes:

I believe they call it "Lunch"

Send Miss Peahen over to the new 5 Guys in the old Prospect Heights Stationers space. Maybe they'll cook her up for a locavore special.

That looks like a guinea hen. There's one that used to live in a yard on Sterling, and he occasionally used to roam the streets.

I almost caught him to put in my own yard until I saw that he had a bowl of water under the fence. He might just be someone's outdoor pet.

Eastbloc is correct. Said bird is a guinea fowl, not a peahen. They are useful to eat insects, espcially ticks, but they are NOT melodious in their calls.
