Dear Anonymous Neighbor,

Please, don't use the things in the backyard that do not belong to you. And please clean up after yourself. Isn't it enough that you take up two thirds of the area with your children's swimming pool that creates a muddy sea of grossness because you clearly are not very concerned about keeping the area clean as per the mud slides and popped water balloons and other various things?

Sincerely,

A pretty patient not so anonymous neighbor who just wants their buildings co-inhabitants to be more respectful of common areas.

There's a level of passive aggressiveness here that would make most Minnesotans proud. Did you at least post this letter, or something similar, in a common area?

    Thinkdream-

    Whyfi has a point.

Like most message boards, this one is read by only a small percentage of the neighborhood.

If you only express your annoyance here, your neighbors may never know that you are annoyed.

WhyFi, whonot_31... you both have a good point.

sadly for me, this is somewhat the precise reason that i have posted it on this board rather than going right to the source. i am a little too chicken to do it. even though at times my blood pressure feels like it will go through the roof, it usually does not outweigh my desire to avoid uncomfortable situations and/or tension that posting a letter nearby or speaking to the neighbors directly might create... nevermind the fact that it could actually solve the problem. =)

i guess it could be worse, too. i could have a live dj throwing parties in my backyard every night as some do...

Correct, you could have it far worse, and yours certainly does not sound like a situation that should require the city's help.

Although directly meeting with someone does not seem to be your forte, all is not lost.

Perhaps the tenants need to be politely brought to the attention of the landlord? You know, the landlord you hopefully tip at the holidays, and the one they hopefully do not....

People tip the landlord? I've tipped the super, but never the landlord. Isn't my rent enough?

people are sometimes nice to their landlord at the holidays.

...but yes, the super is what I meant to type.

[why can't you people know what I meant to type as opposed to what I typed? :) ]

Hey there, original poster. I think we are the neighbors you refer to in your post. I'm so sorry the kiddie pool has been bothering you! I told my husband we should ask people in the building before putting it out back but he was under the impression that nobody else much uses the backyard. I also asked him to be more diligent about cleaning up any water balloon mess and to be aware of mudslides. What is it that we're using that is not ours?

Terribly sorry for being inconsiderate neighbors. Will try to be better.

beasyouare, I have a feeling that if you look anything like you post that you will probably be able to make a temp mess w water balloons and a kiddie pool for the short time one will still be needed. May I suggest that you w your good outlook approach thinkdream about the use of space for a limited time, if you are holding hands w the pools users or have them ask tinkdream I am sure the deal will be sealed. I have vast experience w people from Minn. If thinkdream is really from there, a small child asking for a favor will be automatic, just the way they roll

Try the water park/playground on Underhill. Lots of fun for the kids and less stress for your neighbors.

We do go to Underhill playground a few times a week. Sometimes it's nicer to stay at home and be able to play rather than venture out. We will be packing up the pool in a few weeks anyway and I'll be sure to keep the mess the kids make in check!
