Rainbow Cafe-- 1 Sign down, 1 sign being dismantled

Does anyone know anything about the Rainbow Cafe on 5th and 39th St? It must have been vacant over a year now and it looks as if construction work stopped a couple of months age.

What's the exact address? We can look it up on BIS and see what the work permits are for...

I hope they don't destroy the signage, love that sign!

Technically all they legally can be doing is plumbing work. If you see them doing anything other, such has demo or major renovation, call 311 and file a complaint with DOB, then call CB7 with a follow up.

I haven't see any work going on there in months. I think the new owner couldn't find interested commercial tenants. That is a common problem in this area.

Right now it looks like a sign company is trying to take down the word Rainbow from the front. Some guys in a cherry picker with equipment. SOrry, I don't have a camera. It looks as if they are having a hard time and can't seem to figure out what to do.

This morning some guys from Paul's Sign co took down the suspended sign from the Rainbow Cafe at 5th Ave and 39 St. Now they are trying to drill off the neon sign from the front. I don't have a camera, sorry.

OK they took down the whole facade. RIP Rainbow Cafe.
